🏆 Congratulations TPDT 🏆

The Team performed with so much ❤ and everyone did an amazing job! What a great few days at the West Coast Elite Nationals in Long Beach. We really brought it!
Last night was the Grand Finale Gala Event and 2 of our dances re-competed for a National Title. We are so proud to announce our competition placement at Nationals:

1st Place (Oh Yeah!) - Small Hip Hop GOLD category. This dance also won the BEST SHOWMANSHIP AWARD and had the 4th highest overall score for the entire competition! What an amazing accomplishment, we killed this!

2nd Place & 6th Place - Large Hip Hop GOLD category. Our Medium HH Team was also invited to dance at the Gala and they won 2nd Place! This dance was outstanding and everyone really worked hard to make this piece a contender. Special Kudos to the entire Varsity team for placing 6th in one of the most competitive and difficult categories at Nationals. We were up against incredible talent and our performance was very exciting! We had 2 dances place in the Top 6 in this huge category - WOW!

6th Place - Medium Contemporary GOLD category. As always, this dance was amazing and performed with so much emotion. Such a dramatic piece that is absolutely breathtaking to watch! An all time favorite of Ms. Kaye's....

3rd Place - Small Contemporary SILVER category. A dance that has challenged us all year but was showcased at it's best. All of the changes required tremendous effort and really made a difference!

TPDT is definitely ON THE MAP... We received so many compliments from guests in attendance and dancers from other schools. We are clearly a team to beat and so next year, we'll be training harder than ever to defend our Championship Title and to place even higher in the other categories! It was a great few days full of fun and memories. These awards (and the crazy quantity of fabulous trophies!) are all a testament to your dedication and hard work. Special thanks to TPHS for their support and to Ms. Kaye and Simone for their vision and commitment. WE ARE TP - Proud Falcons and honored members of the Torrey Pines Dance Team. Great job everyone!

2014 USA Varsity Nationals

Torrey Pines High School dancers won trophies in every category they entered last week at the United Spirit Association 2014 Nationals & Championships in Anaheim.

Varsity dancers competed in the championship division, where they captured a third-place trophy for their large hip-hop routine.

In other finishes, medium hip-hop took a second-place; medium lyrical won a third-place trophy, x small dance finished third and small dance finished fifth.

“I am so proud of our dancers,” said Sarah Kaye, Torrey Pines dance director. “Some of our dancers had very little experience before joining our program. Now they are competing at a very high level. That really says a lot about their talent, dedication and hard work.”

The Torrey Pines contingent included 40 students – seven from junior varsity and 33 from varsity.

During awards ceremonies on Friday at the Anaheim Convention Center, an earthquake caused the bleachers to tremble and overhead lights to swing shortly after the announcer identified the Torrey Pines team.

“You could say our performance was earth-shaking,” Kaye said.

The dance program at Torrey Pines High School serves nearly 260 students at all levels. Kaye runs the program with the assistance of Coach Anthony Rodriguez.

Varsity dancers competing last week included: Jackie Antoun, Delaney Baril, Meaghan Baril, Heejun Chough, Emma Conger, Megan Corgan, Delaney Douglas, Austin Edwards, Edward Fang, Maura Friedlander, Audrey Gompf, Brianna Haire, Megan Hermer, Andreana Izotov, Margaret Izotov, Lauren Kent, Josh Kim, Nurie Kim, Jenny Kwak, Ben Larchet, Julia London, Sarah Ludington, Kelsey McMullen, Brenda Mejia, Jaqueline Park, Serina Patel, Katie Qian, Ashley Ramirez, Erin Ross, Alex Shearer, Declan Sullivan, Madison Tencer and Narumi Watanabe.

The junior varsity team was represented by:

Madison Clagg, Samantha Griffith, Christine Li, Madeline Lim, Claire Norma, Elana Roberts and Kaitlin Tiernan.

With competition finished for the year, the dance program will direct its energy toward its year-end performance, Expression Session 2014, which is set for June 7 at the Torrey Pines High School gym.

On June 9th, to a packed house, the Torrey Pines Dance Team and Dance PE took to the floor of the school gym to present their annual year-end show.  They did not disappoint!

Through a mix of dance styles that included hip hop, jazz, lyrical, modern and tap the dancers showcased the artistic talents they spent the year polishing.  The program incorporated pieces choreographed by students, coaches and professionals in the dance community.

Joining the dancers in the evening performance were members of the Torrey Pines Drum Line, Orchestra and Kevin Kirsch.  The Drum Line accompanied the Varsity Dance Team in the opening piece titled "Procession", while the Orchestra beautiful played Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" to a piece perfomed by the JV Dance Team.  Kevin Kirsch amazed the audience by magically making his model airplane dance through the air of the gym.

Expression Session 2012 truly offered something for everyone to enjoy.
